What makes Calming Reins unique is the ability to combine traditional talk therapy, nature-based therapy, and equine-assisted therapy, all at the pace and level that suits you. Whether you’re more comfortable on the couch talking face-to-face, walking on a trail through the beautiful Snoqualmie valley, or sharing together in the pasture with horses, I can tailor every session to your needs.

Limited spots are available for sliding scale clients who cannot afford the full fee.

Individual Sessions

For those who seek connection and guidance in a one-on-one setting. Individual sessions can be held in-person or virtually. In-person sessions can combine any elements of nature and equine-assisted therapy as desired.

$155 per 50 minute session

Family Sessions

For those looking to explore, understand, and heal relationships. Family sessions can be held in-person or virtually. In-person sessions can combine any elements of nature and equine-assisted therapy as desired.

$235 per 80 minute session

DBT Therapy Groups:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based therapy covering skills in the 4 areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation. DBT can help with depression/anxiety, mood swings/anger outbursts, self-harm, and family/peer conflict. Benefits of DBT include strengthening relationships, coping with difficult emotions or situations, working through conflict, soothing oneself, and gaining self-respect. Group therapy can help reduce isolation, learn skills within a supportive community, and provide therapy at an affordable rate.

Seattle Teen DBT Group: 75 minute weekly skills group for middle and high school students. Offered in partnership with Amie Shipley, LMHC. Located in Wallingford.

Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 5pm-6:15pm. Tuesdays are led by Amie Shipley, Wednesdays are led by JoAnna McBride.

Carnation Teen DBT Group: 75 minute weekly skills group for middle and high school students offered in a peaceful cottage on a horse farm, the perfect setting for learning mindfulness skills, and finding relaxation and soothing. Tuesdays from 5:15pm-630pm. Open to teens 12+.

Carnation Adult DBT Group: 75 minute weekly skills group for adults who are interested in learning DBT skills to improve their lives within a supportive group setting, offered in a calming setting on a horse farm with some outdoor sessions as weather allows. Mondays from 6:00pm-715pm.

Individual DBT sessions for Parents of Teens: as needed or weekly individual session for parents with teens either in a DBT group, or parents with teens struggling with emotion regulation, including teens who might be unwilling to do DBT themselves, but may benefit from a parent equipped with these skills. Offered in a serene farm setting, perfect for a moment of self-care for parents. Please see individual therapy above for pricing.

Cost and Length: All groups are currently $70/session, with payment due in full at the start of each 8-week module (some sliding scale and payment plans available). There are 3 modules included in the full set of DBT skills, with mindfulness covered in all modules. It is recommended but not required that members go through each module twice to learn and practice the skills. New group members are required to do an individual orientation/assessment prior to starting group, billed at the individual therapy rate. Superbills can be provided for groups.

A note from JoAnna about insurance:

I am in network with Kaiser PPO, Optum, United and Premera. For all other insurances, I can provide superbills. DBT groups cannot be submitted to insurance for in network or out of network benefits.
